Areas of Practice
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
DBT is an evidence-based treatment developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD, ABPP. It was initially created to treat individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder struggling with suicidal ideation/attempts. Based on research, we have learned DBT is also effective in the treatment of eating disorders, substance abuse, depression and trauma.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Techniques such as exposure and response prevention (ERP) is employed in the treatment of OCD. This includes utilizing exposure to generate habituation to the feared stimuli, while also blocking an individual from preforming any ritualistic behavior (i.e., counting).
intensive individualized programming
Intensive programming is available for those who struggle with social, specific, panic, agoraphobic or separation anxieties, as well as obsessive compulsive disorder. Programming is structured to the individual. During this time, cognitive restructuring is employed to identify distorted automatic thoughts. Exposure is utilized to help the individual build habituation (to decrease or end a response to a feared object after prolonged presentation). If social skills training is warranted, as with social anxieties, these abilities will be taught. Safety behaviors or compulsions, such as in OCD, are extinguished. Relaxation training is modeled and practiced in sessions along with other coping skills to move toward personal life goals.
Eating disorders
Outpatient care is available to manage both child and adult eating and feeding disorders. This includes symptoms of binging, purging, in addition to bouts of restriction.
Psychological testing & Assessment
A licensed clinical psychologist provides assessment for individuals seeking diagnosis clarification, treatment recommendations, current level of functioning, bariatric needs or for academic/work accommodations.
attention deficit hyperactivity
ADHD treatment is available for all ages. Whether you are looking for strategies to become more effective within your work, life or academics, CBT techniques will target inattentive and hyperactive symptoms to improve quality of life.
Depression
In the treatment of depression, whether it be forms of bipolar disorder or major depression, research has shown CBT to be most efficacious. With CBT, individuals learn about the connections among their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Once these connections are identified, individuals and therapists collaborate to meet specific goals. This includes helping individuals acknowledge and change their unhelpful thoughts. Problem-solving abilities are enhanced, in addition to increasing the involvement in positive activities to promote a healthy lifestyle. Behavioral activation is often utilized to lift mood and energy, while reducing isolation.
Anxiety
Individualized therapy, in addition to intensive forms of treatment are employed when dealing with anxiety symptoms. Specific and social phobias, agoraphobia, panic, as well as separation anxieties all require the application of cognitive behavior techniques to reduce symptomology.
Trauma
Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Trauma Focused CBT are all evidence-based practices used in the treatment of managing symptoms related to PTSD. These symptoms can include, although not limited to, intrusive thoughts about an event, anger/irritability, avoidance of places/things, or hypervigilance.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
CBT is a form of therapy which individuals learn to identify faulty or inaccurate thinking, while challenging negative thoughts. Its efficacy has been demonstrated for those struggling with depressive conditions, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse issues, in addition to eating disordered behavior.
Couple Therapy
Couple therapy is offered to develop interpersonal relationship skills in order to improve satisfaction within your partnership. Some forms of therapy provided include Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, DBT for High-Conflict Couples and Imago Therapy.
